Lee Republican Women (LRW)
...originated in 1986 when a group of women decided to break away from the Fort Myers Republican Women’s Club. Our founding Mothers were 11 strong women who were determined and focused on creating a new Republican women’s club that would be an active, vibrant, and hard working grassroots club.

Within a year of starting the club, they became a Federated club and took the name Lee Republican Women Federated (LRWF). Those women were: Virginia Allen, Ann Bassine, Leah Bucher, GE Dunlap, Laura Fernandez, Florence Fricke, Elizabeth Harman, Sterling Jones, Judi Kinzler, Phyllis Mahoney and Bea Naylor.

When these women started gathering as a new club, they held meetings in each other’s homes but within a year’s time had grown their membership to 33. Under the leadership of their first President G.E. Dunlap, LRWF sent 24 of their 33 members to the Florida Federation of Republican Women’s Conference in Clearwater and were commended for their show of support and interest.

In 1991 at the National Federation of Republican Women’s Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio LRWF was honored as having the biggest increase in membership of any local club in the United States- approximately a 250% increase in membership to 200 members!

Over the years, we have continued to work hard to promote Republican values and Republican candidates at both the local, state, and national level. We thank our founding Mothers for their foresight and guidance. As LRWF continues forward, I truly think our founding Mother’s would be proud of our accomplishments and wish us continued success.
